Peer Support Specialist, Launderer, and Center Custodian Stipend Roles

Discussion focused on three stipend positions: Peer Support Specialist, Launderer, and Center Custodian. The group reviewed expectations, eligibility criteria, position structure, and duration. Initial motions were presented for programmatic updates, new position creation, and work-related logistics.

- Review of stipend roles, including Peer Support Specialist, Launderer, and Center Custodian.

- Discussion on hours needed to complete the Recovery Coach Academy (RCA).

- Clarification that only the Peer Support Specialist role requires a minimum of 6 months in recovery.

- All other stipend positions require active membership at LIR and the ability to meet the physical requirements of the duty.

- Recognition that the Launderer position is difficult to fill and may be extended when needed

 

 

 

Areas of Agreement:

- Motion: Require 180 hours over 60 days to complete the RCA.— Unanimous approval.

- Motion: Establish a 6-month minimum time in recovery only for the Peer Support Specialist stipend position. Approved (7 approve, 1 opposed).

- Motion: Create new stipend positions for Peer Support Specialist and for Launderer. — Unanimous approval.

 

Areas of Concern:

- Motion to allow folks to bring laundry home was made the motion did not pass (4 approved, 5 opposed).

- Ongoing difficulty filling the Launderer position consistently and uncertainty about the ideal position length.

 

Decisions Made:

- RCA completion requirement set at 180 hours within 60 days.

- Minimum 6 months in recovery applies only to the Peer Support Specialist stipend role.

- New stipend positions created for Peer Support Specialist and Launderer.

- Decision not to allow laundry to be taken home; laundromat use continues.

- Launderer position remains a 2-month role, extendable if no one else applies.

- General stipend eligibility for other roles requires active membership at LIR and the ability to meet physical requirements.
